The Weinstein Company has decided to move up the release date of the upcoming film “The Founder”, starring Michael Keaton. Originally due to release Nov. 25, the release date will now be held Aug. 4

John Lee Hancock will be the director of the film with Karen Lunder, Don Handfield, Jeremy Renner and Aaron Ryder producing. The script was written by Robert D Siegel.

“The Founder” focuses on the true story of Ray Kroc, a milkshake dispenser’s salesman, who meets brothers Mac and Dick McDonald, and their journey in creating McDonald’s. First becoming a franchising agent for the company in 1954 at the age of 51, Kroc bought the McDonald’s chain for $2.7 million in 1962.

TWC has also set a date on the upcoming film entitled “Lion”, a story about a 5-year-old boy who takes the wrong train and loses track of his family. Twenty-five years later, he uses Google Earth in hopes to be united his family again.

The cast of “Lion” includes Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, and Rooney Mara. This film is written by Luke Davis, directed by Garth Davis and is based Saroo Brierley’s true story “A Long Way Home”. “Loin” is set to be released in the Nov. 25 slot.

The change in these premiere dates will now mean that both films will be released during the award season of next year. TWC chief Harvey Weinstein has expressed his feelings toward the variety of movies that are made but not recognized by the public.

“I am determined to show that adult fare and award-caliber movies should be able to open any time of year and be successful,” he said. “Last season was saw a crowded fall where some terrific films struggled to find an audience. This year I want to spread out our slate and give them the best opportunity to succeed.”

Weinstein continues to say, “‘The Founder’ is brilliant and one of the most controversial films I have had the pleasure to be associated. The story of Ray Kroc should ignite adult audiences this summer and send the incredible team of John Lee Hancock and Michael Keaton back to the Dolby Theater. The touching and beautiful family story of ‘Lion’ has tremendous performances by Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara and will work really well during the holiday season.”

Linda Cardellini, B.J. Novak, Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, and Laura Dern also star in “The Founder.”
