“Star Wars Episode VIII” has begun production and now has added new members to the already large, diverse cast. Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran have been confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming movie.
Del Toro, best know in films like “Traffic” and “Sicario,“ was already rumored to be joining the cast as a new villain for the franchise. However, it was not know that Dern and Tran would be joining the cast. Dern is best know for her roles in “Jurassic Park” and for HBO‘s “Enlightened.” Meanwhile, Tran is mostly know for comedic parts in videos produced by Collegehumor and for bit parts on NBC‘s “About a Boy,“ IFC‘s “Comedy Bang! Bang!,” and truTV‘s “Adam Ruins Everything.”
A video was also released showing production beginning with a scene being filmed between characters Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) as well as showing director Rian Johnson behind the camera. The video ends with Johnson welcoming the crew to “Episode VIII.”
The cast will also see the return of Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), and Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma). “Star Wars Episode VIII” will release December 15, 2017.
