The “Fifty Shades” franchise is set to continue on as the studio is working on developing “Fifty Shades Darker” the next installment. The sequel film has officially landed an Academy Award winning actress to join stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Kim Basinger has been officially cast as Elena Lincoln who is a business partner of Christian Grey as well as a former flame of his.

Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, and Max Martini are all set to return to their roles of Elliot Grey, Kate, and Taylor respectively. “Fifty Shades Darker” will further explore the complex relationship of Ana and Christian. Christian is still carrying many secrets and still wrestling with his inner demons, meanwhile Anastasia must deal with the anger and envy of the women who came before her in Christian’s life.

James Foley is set to direct the picture and he will be working from a script adapted by Niall Leonard.  Universal plans to shoot “Fifty Shades Darker”, and the final picture “Fifty Shades Freed“, back-to-back. “Darker” will be released next year on February 10th while “Freed” will hit theater Feburary 9, 2018.
