After keeping silent for a period of time, Chris Rock is officially remaining the host of this years Oscars. Despite the growing controversy over the Oscars diversity issue and pressure from certain celebrities asking him to step down Rock will remain on board and is even rewriting his opening monologue for the show. Rock is said to be addressing the #OscarsSoWhite conversation in a very big way.
This huge news comes after The Academy’s announcement on Friday that it would implement drastic changes to its membership and voting system in order to promote diversity.
Reginald Hudlin, who is the producer of the Award ceremony said that “Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room.” “As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.’”
Hudlin went on further to say that “Chris is that thorough. He’s that brilliant, and I have 1000 percent confidence that he will deliver something that people will be talking about for weeks.”
Hudlin also said that he and his team are prepared for Rock to make some controversial statments.
“The Academy is ready for him to do that,”said Hudlin. “They’re excited about him doing that. They know that’s what we need. They know that’s what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want.”
The 88th Academy Awards will air February 28th
