Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to play yet another real-life woman. She has recently played a similar role in the newly released film called “Joy“. You can also see her in this role in her other films “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
“American Hustle” writer Eric Warren Singer has written this film which will be known as “Marita”. “Matt Tolmach” will produce the film with Lawrence and Scott Mednick.
In “Marita”, the Golden Globe winner will be playing Marita Lorenz, who is a woman who had an affair with Fidel Castro as a nineteen-year-old in 1959. One year later she was sent back to Cuba on an assassination mission. Her life is full of claims that cannot be verified. Some of these theories include her being involved in a communist plot to kill John F. Kennedy after possibly meeting up with Lee Harvey Oswald and having both Castro and Venezuelan dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez fathering her children.
Based on this film and her previous effort, “Joy”, it looks like Lawrence may have the opportunity to play more powerful women in her future especially after having more time since the end of “The Hunger Games” franchise.
Sony Pictures is moving aggressively on this project and hopes to find a director soon and is trying to release the film towards the end of 2017.
