Guillermo Del Toro is developing a movie based on popular children’s book series “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark“.

The trilogy of folklore-based horror stories, retold by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell, has remained one of the most popular scary book series’ for children since its publication in 1981. It’s sold 7 million copies worldwide and has managed to become one of the most banned books ever by the American Library Association for being too scary for kids.

Guillermo Del Toro confirmed on Twitter that he plans to bring the terrifying tales to the big screen, calling the book “a favorite” of his youth. He’s set to produce the project and according to Deadline. There is also talk of him directing the film as well. No release date or production starting date has been determined.
