From the director of “Hunger Games” and “Seabiscuit,” Gary Ross brings this true Civil War story to the big screen. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as Newton Knight, a poor farmer and a confederate soldier from Jones County, Mississippi. After the war, Knight quickly realizes how the army is wrong, believing that he was fighting in an army only to keep the people rich. He soon realizes that it is up to him to become a leader, inspiring a rebellion against the Confederate army and establishing the Free State of Jones. “Free State of Jones” is also written by Gary Ross. McConaughey stars alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell, and Mahershala Ali.
This trailer is filled with lots of action and drama and starts out with a war when Newton Knight begins with fighting for the Confederate army. It then transitions to him fighting with other farmers and slaves after returning home. “Free State of Jones” will be released in theaters on May 13, 2016.
