Oscar winner Ang Lee is set to direct a boxing picture that follows the infamous “Thrilla in Manilla” match between Muhammed Ali and the late Joe Frazier.

The picture was picked up by Studio 8 after Focus passed it up, and Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo is being eyed to play Frazier.

The film will explore the world of boxing during the 1970’s- when Ali and Frazier were the at the top of their game, and the sport as a whole reached its peak in popularity.

Peter Morgan is writing the script while James Schamus is currently attached to produce. However, the production’s start date is currently unknown as Lee is currently wrapping his feature film “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.”

A release date has yet to be announced.
