Reese Witherspoon is set to develop and possibly star in a movie on the origins of the Barbie Doll.

Witherspoon along with partner Bruna Papandrea and their production company, Pacific Standard, are producing the film which will be adapted from Robin Gerber’s 2010 book “Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her.”

The book focuses on Barbie creator  Ruth Handler, who was inspired to create the iconic doll after seeing her daughter, Barbara, playing with paper dolls modeled after infants.

Handler found an adult novelty toy over seas and reworked it to work as a toy for children and her husband’s company, Mattel, introduced the Barbie doll in the year 1959.

Michel Litvak will also produce with the two partners while Gary Michael Walters, Jon Oakes, Robin Gerber and Grace Ledding will be executive producers.

The film’s release date has yet to be announced.
