Emma Stone has been cast in the sports drama “Battle of the Sexes,” a film written by Simon Beauty that centers around tennis pro Billie Jean King.

While there were concerns that Stone would not be able to do the film because of possible scheduling conflicts, it has been confirmed that she will fill the role alongside Steve Carell, who is set to play Bobby Riggs.

Danny Boyle of Decibel Films and Christian Colson of Cloud Eight will be producing the film, while  “Little Miss Sunshine” filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris are set to direct the picture.

However, “Battle of the Sexes” is just one of three films currently in development that will revolve around the face-off between King and Riggs. HBO and Playtone’s “Proof,” starring Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti, and Chernin Entertainment and Gary Sanchez’s “Match Maker,” with Will Ferrell, will also focus on the same match.

While this isn’t the first time three films about the same topic have been in production at the same time- such was the case with the “War of the Worlds” reboots in 2005- Stone’s fans can also look forward to seeing her as Mia in “La La Land” next year.
