Singer and actress Mariah Carey is officially in talks to play Gotham City’s mayor in The LEGO Batman Movie. Deadline originally reported that Carey would be playing a female Commissioner James Gordon, but a new update released by The Hollywood Reporter confirmed she’s in talks to play the mayor, whose name has not yet been revealed.
If Carey gets the role, she’ll appear alongside the voice talent of Will Arnett as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Michael Cera as Robin and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth. Whether or not Zack Galifanakis will be playing The Joker remains unclear.
Carey’s previous movie credits include Glitter, WiseGirls, The Bachelor, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Precious, and The Butler. She’s lended her voice to The Proud Family and American Dad.
The script for The LEGO Batman Movie was written by The Flash director Seth Grahame-Smith and will be directed by Chris McKay. The directors of The LEGO Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce The LEGO Batman Movie with Dan Lin.
The LEGO Batman Movie is set to be released on May 26, 2017.
