Director Luc Besson of the upcoming sci-fi flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets announced via Instagram that Rihanna has joined the cast. She joins Cara Delevigne, Dane DeHaan, and Clive Owen in the new film.
“RIHANNA is in VALERIAN!!!!! ….and she has a big part!! I’m Sooo excited!!!” he wrote. Rihanna last appeared on screen in Battleship (2012), made a cameo in the remake of Annie, and was in the animated feature Home.
Besson describes the film as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith in space,” and is based on Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres’ graphic novel. The setting is the 28th century, where humanity has discovered the ability to time travel. Production begins this January in France, and will hit theaters July 21, 2017.
