“Hunger Games” star Elizabeth Banks has officially entered into negotiations with Sony to direct the next installment of Charlie’s Angels.
Charlie’s Angels was originally a tv show in the late 1970s, whose line-up varied over the years. The actresses who played the Angels on the show include Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, Tanya Roberts, and most famously the late Farrah Fawcett. In 2000 and 2003 Charlie’s Angels were made into 2 feature films and they starred a young Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. The films were noted for their excessively flashy visual style, wire-fu action, and low humor. in 2011 another TV show based on the series was made but it ultimately got cancelled due to the change of style and tone.
With news of Patty Jenkins directing the “Wonder Woman” solo film, a search going on for a female director for Captain Marvel and With Angelina Jolie‘s third feature By the Sea coming soon as well as Ava Duvernay once being attached to Marvel’s Black Panther it seems a new wave of female directors is starting to form.
As of now nothing else has been confirmed as far as Charlies Angels which will be Banks second directorial feature as she helmed this past years Pitch Perfect 2.
