RZA has sealed the deal to direct Amasia Entertainment’s newest action-thriller Breakout from a script by Richard D’Ovidio. The film will follow a photographer in Bangladesh falsely arrested for drug trafficking, and his father’s plans to break him out of prison and uncover the truth. “The multi-talented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting and filmmaking,” said Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant of Amasia Entertainment. “We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio.” Filming of the project is set to begin in 2016, and will rejoin Amasia and RZA, who worked together on the upcoming action-comedy romance Mr. Right, where he acts alongside Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. That film will make its world premiere as the closing night film at the Toronto Film Festival on September 19. Breakout will mark RZA’s third directorial endeavor following 2011 action film “The Man With the Iron Fist” and the recently-wrapped musical drama Coco. The latter, set for release in 2016, stars Azealia Banks, Common, and Lorraine Toussaint (of Orange Is the New Black fame.) D’Ovidio provided the script for Amasia’s 2013 crime-thriller The Call, which starred Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin
