Director James Ponsoldt has been making waves with his casting in independent films, including big name actors and actresses. Most recently, he paired Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel in The End of the Tour. He’s also made interesting cast combinations, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul in Smashed, as well as Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley for The Spectacular Now.
Now, his latest film The Circle, a film adaptation of Dave Eggers novel, will star Tom Hanks. Hanks is the fourth cast member to be announced, following Emma Watson, John Boyega of Star Wars: The Force Awakens fame and Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan.
The Circle follows tech worker Mae Holland, played by Watson, as she joins and works at a powerful Internet company. Initially, the new job is rewarding, but the longer she works there, the more she realizes that things aren’t as perfect as they seem. Hanks is set to play the owner of the company, with Boyega playing an highly regarded child prodigy and Gillan as a member.
With all of its leads announced, production on The Circle is set to begin in late September. No release date has been announced.
