Deadline first reported that Rupert Wyatt-directed X-Men spinoff Gambit may have found its female lead role. 21st Century Fox offered Lea Seydoux the part of Belladonna Boudreaux, the heir to the head of the Assassins Guild, after first hearing her name mentioned in July. The French actress was up against a few other practiced stars including Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’s Rebecca Ferguson, and Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey Lee. However, competition became less stiff when Ferguson dropped out of the running after signing up for The Girl on the Train opposite Emily Blunt. Should she accept the role, Seydoux will be the second person to officially join the cast after Channing Tatum, who will play the head of the Thieves Guild, Gambit. Seydoux has a healthy mix of French and Hollywood films. Back home, she is known for numerous works like Blue is the Warmest Color. She has shown her action-packed abilities with Hollywood blockbusters Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and James Bond adventure Spectre. In the comics, Bella was Gambit’s love since childhood. Once they are older, they set up a wedding in hopes to fix ties between the rival Thieves and Assassins guilds. However, the wedding is completely ruined by certain parties and the special day ends in tragedy. Although plot details are slim, the movie may closely reflect the comics. Seydoux s represented by WME, United Agents and Agence Adequat. Gambit is due for release in 2016
