Warner Bros. Pictures just announced that Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One is set to premiere December 15, 2017. The science fiction adaption from Ernest Cline’s novel depicts the story of a future gamer, Wade Watts, living in the year 2044 who constantly obsesses over the 1980s, as he embarks on a gaming adventure in the quest for fame and fortune.
Spielberg signed on to direct Ready Player One in March, and will also serve as a producer. Zak Penn, who wrote and directed the documentary Atari: Game Over, and wrote scripts for The Avengers, X2: X-Men United, and the 2008 reboot of The Incredible Hulk, adapted the screenplay which Cline wrote alongside Eric Eason. Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures are also producing alongside Warner Bros. Pictures.
Production for the film has not yet started, and no casting details have been announced as of yet for Ready Player One.
