Alex Rocco the actor who famously played Moe Greene in the legendary Oscar winning picture The Godfather, passed away yesterday at the age of 79. His death was unfortunately due to Cancer. Rocco played Moe Greene a casino owner in 1972’s The Godfather. Although it was small and crucial role he was apart of the stories biggest transition as Michael began utilizing his power as don and killed off Greene as part of solidifying his grip on the crime family legacy. Along with several members of the cast Rocco had made a name for himself thanks to that picture.

Outside of The Godfather, Rocco starred in other pictures such as Slither, The Stunt Man, Lady in White, Get Shorty, A Bug’s Life, The Wedding Planner, The Country Bears, and the animated superhero film Batman: Year One.

Rocco studied under the late Leonard Nimoy and took up roles on TV shows such as the 1960’s Batman series,The Golden Girls, “The A-Team,, Starsky and Hutch, William Shatner’s crime procedural, T.J. Hooker, The Facts of Life and the short lived Magic City. Rocco won an Emmy Award in 1990 for his supporting performance on the show The Famous Teddy Z. He also had a successful run in the 90’s on the hit animated series The Simpsons as he voiced Roger Meyers Jr.

Rocco’s last bit of work was on the first episode of the Comedy Series Maron. Rocco is survived by his second wife Shannon Wilcox, Their daughter Jennifer, son Lucien and Grandson Anthony. He will be missed.
