Michael Cera has finalized a deal to voice Robin, Batman’s crime-fighting partner, in Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie spinoff, Lego Batman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Superbad star will join many talents from The Lego Movie, including Will Arnett, who will return as the iconic voice of the Dark Knight.
Chris McKay, the animation director of The Lego Movie will take the reins as director. Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and Christopher Miller will produce.
This will be Robin’s first appearance since 1997’s Batman and Robin, which was hugely unsuccessful.
Cera is involved with a number of other projects. He acquired the rights to the 1985 novel Atlantis, which is a comical story set in the early 20th century that tells the story of a young gentleman who becomes intertwined in a quasi-religious cult, named the Gnomon Society, based in the lost city of Atlantis. He will use this as not only an acting vehicle, but as a directing piece as well.
Cera’s next voice-starring job is in Seth Rogen’s animated film Sausage Party, which will debut on August 16. Cera is currently writing and starring in Netflix’s renewal of Arrested Development.
Cera is represented by ICM Partners, Thruline, and Lichter Grossman.
Lego Batman opens in August 2017.
